{menu plan for this week}

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.....but I've been busy with work, Stampin' Up class, helping Adam put up our new bookcase and hang some pictures in the living room, planning garage sales, cooking, family dinners.....you know, the norm. I thought I would take a second to post my menu plan for this week:

Monday: Casey's pizza. You should really try it if you have one in your area!
Tuesday: Beef tacos and spanish rice. I have taken to using this El Pato sauce instead of taco seasoning as sometimes I think it's too salty -- with this you can add the amount of salt you want, plus cumin and coriander or cilantro to your taste.
Wednesday: BLT's and macaroni and cheese
Thursday: Chicken and corn green chile chowder, carrot sticks with ranch, garlic bread Friday: BBQ pork burgers on the grill and tater tots

I also want to make these buffalo chicken burgers, they look delicious!

I made quite a feast for family dinner on Sunday, marinated pork chops, cheesy potatoes and spinach artichoke dip....will post recipes sometime later this week.

Also finished my 4th of July scrapbook page, I'll get that posted later on as well.

Hope you're having a great start to the week, I'm looking forward to a three-day holiday weekend coming up!

{i'm baaack}

Wow. What a great birthday weekend!! I always come back so refreshed and ready for the week after Adam and I take a little getaway.....it's so nice to be able to spend time together without any kiddos interrupting. Nice to see movies and eat out in peace, go shopping, relax and read a book....I could go on and on. But the little one did miss us none the less, and of course we missed her too. :)

I still haven't finished the layout on my desk yet, but here's a peek at what I've been working on.  I need to finish it up and move along because I've got a card class to prep for this weekend!

As I said in my previous post, I'm using paper and stickers from the Pink Paislee 'starlight' line. Love this line!

Last night Adam and I ate at Bubba Gump's.

O.  M.  G.  It was shrimp heaven! What would you expect though?? hehe. I love shrimp so this was right up my alley. Perfect b-day dinner if you ask me :)

And thennnnnnn, I went to Archivers. Here is my rationale. I only go maybe once or twice a year. So when I do, I need to stock UP. Here's what I brought home:

A 7gypsies white Artist Printers Tray. I can't wait to embellish this baby and hang it in my living room. I've been seeing a lot of ideas online so I want to give it a try. See this post on Jill Cornell's blog about the one she did. So cute!

Finally got my hands on a Tim Holtz tiny attacher. OMG these little staples are sooo cute! Can't wait to use this tool.

Paper and stickers from K&Company's Jubilee line. Hadn't seen this one before but everything is just gorgeous.

Ah yes. More Thickers. :)  I especially love the pink glittery ones.

More tiny letter stickers from Jenni Bowlin and Cosmo Cricket.

October Afternoon 'ducks in a row' wild cards, 'report card' label stickers (love these!!), a Making Memories journaling book and a Jenni Bowlin memo book (never had seen this before either - very cool!).

Some very cool looking Jolee's floral embellishments ( I am thinking I can mist these up with my glimmer mists), MORE Maya Road kraft envelopes, and a chipboard alpha by the Girls Paperie (have been waiting awhile to get my hands on this one!!).

I also picked up the new Christmas line by October Afternoon -- Very Merry. I didn't see any coordinating letters or stickers or anything, but I will be keeping my eyes peeled online for those :)  I am really loving those first two papers on the left, the one with the little houses and the pink snowflakes. Of course I still have photos from last Christmas I haven't scrapped yet....

More OA papers. Yes I have a problem.

I found out about these babies in Creating Keepsakes -- We R Memory Keepers 4x4 divided photo pages. How cool!

Lastly, some of the new Graphic 45 papers (steampunk debutante collection) --- and some vellum.

Can't wait to crack into these goodies.... :)

In case you haven't heard, Big Picture Scrapbooking is hosting a free workshop right now:

So go forth HERE and sign up. Lots of neat inspiration and ideas! And best of all, free! They also have tons of other classes you can sign up for.

That is all for now. I need to get to sleep so I can get up at the you-know-what-of-dawn tomorrow for work. Nighty night. :)

{never have i been more ready for a weekend}

Away.

That's right folks, I've said it before and I'm saying it again. I'm so glad it's Friday.

lol ;)

This weekend Adam and I will be taking a weekend to go to the Mall of America, sans kiddo, to spend some time together for my birthday.

Last time I was there it was for work, so I didn't take a lot of time to explore all the stores. But for sure, I'll be looking forward to this:

And this:

God bless Archivers!!

:)

I haven't been too crafty this week, but I did work the last few nights on a 4th of July layout using Pink Paislee papers and stickers, they are lovely.

I especially love this sticker sheets, with the different borders and banners and such.

Maybe if I get it done later tonight I can share it before we leave for the weekend...no promises though! Have a good weekend everyone :)

{summer reading}

This summer I've been reuniting with my books.....I have always loved to read, but life has sort of gotten in my way for the last few (or 5) years. :)

If you haven't yet read these books, you must.

I bought and read this book when we were out in Seattle, if you struggle with compulsive or emotional eating, this is a great book.

I read this while we were out in Seattle too, a great story.

Just finished this book - wow -- loved it! A real eye opener about what women in Afghanistan have to go through. Makes you very grateful for the freedoms we have in this country.

I just started reading this book last Friday so I'm excited to get into it.

My sister also just lent me this book (we love Jodi Picoult!!) so I'll be reading it next!

My grandma requested a card for my Aunt and Uncle's 25th wedding anniversary, so I decided to go with one of their engagement pics on the front of the card:

My grams was so pleasantly surprised when she saw I had used a photo! ;)

I used some of the new American Crafts rose trim, along with Stampin' Up patterned paper (music note) and some machine stitching.

I created the sentiment with some word stickers, and layers upon layers of Studio Calico Anthology stickers.

Today we went to the pool with my sister...

And yes, we did it up old style with a waterproof disposable camera. :)

Here's my sis floating down the lazy river.....

I am loving these pictures! Mostly because they are taken on real film, not digitally, and I haven't seen that in what seems like forever....

Can't wait to scrap them!!

Keira loved the little slide they had here :)

Such great memories.....and though I know Keira won't 'remember', I love taking her to do new things, love spending time and bonding with her.....and someday she will be able to look back at the photos and know how special she was. ♥♥♥

Off to work again tomorrow......just have to get through the week and then......Minneapolis! Saturday-Monday! Woot! :):):):)

Hope you had a great weekend too.

{ayeyeyeyeye.}

I am SO glad it's Friday. Even though I have a busy weekend planned, at least I don't have to show up for work the next few days! To say it's been a little chaotic there would be an understatement...... :)

I planned to show this layout earlier in the week but time got away from me:

I have had these two crappy cell phone pics lying around for awhile now, as well as the homemade card Adam made me (☺) to tell my Mother's Day story for this year. The title as you can see is -of course- American Crafts Thickers, as well as some word stickers from The Girls Paperie and letter stickers from Cosmo Cricket.

This little blossom is also by The Girls Paperie, and the star stick pin is by Maya Road. The background patterned paper for this layout is by My Mind's Eye.

I used a Studio Calico journaling card, and slipped it into a Maya Road kraft envelope along with the actual handmade card. The date label is by Elle's Studio.

Here's the finished layout. A quickie for sure but happy with how it turned out!

I stopped at Memories on Fifth earlier in the week because I knew they had some new goodies.....I picked up these papers from Echo Park as well as some Crate Paper patterned papers.

I've shied away from bright colors before in my scrapping, but with summer pics to scrap of Keira now, they actually work out pretty well :)

I also got some of the new Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer mist in an aqua color called peacock, my idea is that it will work well for some more pool photos.

I think this sticker sheet from Echo Park is my fave -- love the banner, clouds, tree and that hot air balloon! too cute!

Not sure how much scrapping I'll get done this weekend with a garage sale going on tomorrow but I'll sure try. :)

Have a great Saturday.

{love me a 3-day weekend}

I asked Adam if he could take last Friday off, because I wanted to take the day off as well and head up to Monkey Joes. It's basically a big bouncy house for kids! Although Keira is a bit young for most of it, she did have fun after she warmed up to everything.

This is the toddler area they have....at first I had to get in with her, then she allowed me to put her in by herself for all of about 2 minutes! hehe. It was a little hard for her to keep her balance on these things!

This was the other toddler area, with slides!

I didn't get a picture, but I helped her go down the slide a few times, with daddy catching her at the bottom. Adam said the first time she came down, the look on her face was priceless! Pure fear he said! Once he said "Yay!!!!" and she went down a second time, she loved it. Of course she was tuckered out on the way home! Fell sound asleep in the car.

It was funny too, she kept walking all around, and staring up and pointing at this huge inflatable monkey...hee. :) It was the cutest thing.

Saturday we had a regular smoke-fest at our house....Adam smoked two beef briskets, a chicken and a turkey breast. The briskets and the chicken turned out the best.

But we did end up making turkey club sandwiches out of the meat.....and those turned out good too! Tonight we had BBQ chicken sandwiches and Pioneer Woman's mac and cheese. A very tasty meal! I thought her mac and cheese was good, but I also thought the recipe I usually use was better. :) I'll post it some other time.

I also picked up some fresh peach jam at the farmer's market on Saturday, so I made homemade biscuits this morning and topped them with that.....YUM. Then I used the rest of the jar to make some peach cobbler and had that tonight with vanilla ice cream for dinner.

I'll post the recipe for this tomorrow, as well as the biscuits.

I'm working on some ABC flashcards for Keira that are probably going to take a very long time to finish...

I got these printables from Elle's Studio and I'm planning on making them all then asking my mom to laminate them, since she has a machine! :) I say they are going to take me a very long time, because the animals are going to be cut using my Cricut, and that can get a little tedious! But I'm in no hurry. I can't wait to see them when they're all done though!

I also worked on a baby card, this one will either go to my friend Nikki or to my cousin and his wife who are expecting. I tried to make it as gender-neutral as possible. The elephant stamp is a single stamp that is new in the Stampin' Up catalog called Baby Steps. I used white craft ink and embossing powder for the image.

I haven't decided yet, but this may be one of the cards that we'll make for my class on the 28th.

Well boo, tomorrow's Monday, back to work again! Thanks for stopping by.

{zucchini bread}

 {sorry for crap-tastic photo taken with my phone☺}
A few years back, Adam requested that I make him some zucchini bread. I had never made it before, so I proceeded to look through my cookbooks and online, and found what looked like a pretty good recipe for chocolate chip zucchini bread. Who doesn't like chocolate chips?

Apparently Adam doesn't.....in his zucchini bread anyway. :) He politely (mmmmhmmmmm☺) told me to ask his mother for the recipe for HER zucchini bread......because that kind was the best.  Since I didn't want him being unhappy and dissatisfied, I complied and guess what? It is the best zucchini bread.

Sometimes you have to listen to your husband because they may actually know what they're talking about.

Zucchini Bread

  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 2 C sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 C grated zucchini
  • 1 T vanilla
  • 2 T Karo Syrup
  • 1 C chopped walnuts
  • 3 C flour
  • 1 T cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
Sift dry ingredients together. Cream oil, butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, karo, and vanilla. Stir in zucchini and dry ingredients. Stir in nuts. Pour into two greased and floured loaf tins and bake at 350 for 60-70 mins.

Makes 2 loaves.

Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

{card class & some swimming}

I'm working on planning another card class for August 28th. Here are two of the cards we'll be making.

The first card uses one of the new stamp sets - Party This Way; and it has a banner stamp! Awesome!

I used some bright colors and patterned paper on this card too, along with the scalloped border punch.

This card uses one of my favorite stamp sets, Great Friend.

I love the butterfly image, as well as the handwritten font and frame stamp.

For the background on the card, I used some of the floral stamps from Watercolor Trio, as well as the Sizzlits Little Leaves die and the Big Shot.

I'm sad to see this weekend come to an end! Adam and I had a sort of date-day yesterday - Keira went to Gma and Gpa's house and we went to a movie and dinner at Texas Roadhouse. We saw Dinner for Schmucks, and it was pretty good! I love Steve Carell (and The Office too!) so I'm always up for any movie that has him in it. I'd recommend seeing it if you want a good laugh.

I also took Keira to the pool today.

At first she was pretty unsure and was crying when I went into the water with her.....but then I introduced her to these water fountains, and that's all she needed to cheer right up :)

I think she could have played with them all day!

I couldn't get a picture of her looking at me, but trust me she had the biggest smile on her face ;)

Afterwards we went to McDonald's for the obligatory after swim snack. She was pretty tired!

And then she took a two hour nap.  Hopefully she'll sleep well tonight!
