{menu monday}

I had a great weekend at an out of town crop with friends, but now it's Monday....back to reality ;) I'm taking it fairly easy this week on the menu because I'm trying to use up what I have at home, and I didn't have time to do my normal Sunday cooking. {too busy scrapping ;)}

But I did get 8 layouts done, woohoo! I played with the new Handmade Layers collection by Elle's Studio....I swear I used at least one tag on each layout ;) If you're on the fence about buying this collection, do it now! The colors will work with almost any layout, and all the tags are so versatile. So I will have lots to share this week, as soon as I can get the layouts photographed and posted here on the blog.

Sunday: Cheeseburger mac, green beans, cottage cheese

Monday: Breakfast for dinner - bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast

Tuesday: Creamed chipped beef on toast {this is seriously one of Adam's favorite meals - he's not hard to please sometimes :)}

Wednesday: Southwest pasta skillet, fruit salad

Thursday: Corn dogs and tater tots {see, I told you this was simple. hee}

Friday: Out for pizza

I also made an angel food cake last night, so we'll have that for dessert with sliced strawberries and whipped cream.

{your first haircut}

The photos I have of Keira's first haircut are too funny. She doesn't look amused. There really wasn't that much to trim up, and I thought she would sit in the booster seat like a little trooper, but there were a lot of tears shed instead! ;)

To embellish the top of my layout, I layered a Patchwork Circle Journaling Tag on black cardstock and trimmed around it. I tucked this under my main piece of cardstock/patterned paper.

For this little embellishment cluster, I used a Calendar Tiny Tag, a Mix & Match number tag, and a Sweetheart Tiny tag punched into a circle.

For my journaling, I used an Owl Love you Forever Journaling tag.

Layered with a Vintage Note circle journaling tag and die cut butterfly.

I like how the page turned out and I'm glad I have this moment documented! I also got the obligatory lock of hair in a little baggie, but that will have to go in the traditional baby book ;)

As for me, this is a pre-secheduled post, so right now I'm getting ready to leave for a fun filled scrapbooking weekend at a hotel out of town. Many hours of scrapping bliss! Hope you have an enjoyable weekend as well.

{the story mini book}

Today, my first mini with Elle's products. How perfect are these tags to make a little book out of? For this project I used cards from Make a List and Pieces of Life.

I printed out computer journaling onto thin patterned paper and cut into strips.

To create these smallish photos, I opened a 5x7 collage in Picasa and added in 9 photos. After I had it printed, I trimmed them to the size I wanted. The result are super cute sized photos - perfect for these tags.

For the cover, I used a journaling tag mounted on some kraft cardstock and embellished with some jounaling, punched butterflies and stitching. I used a binder ring tied with ribbon and twine to hold it all together.

I hope you try making your own mini book with these tags! So easy and quick, but super cute. What a great gift this would be for a grandma to tuck in her purse as a little brag book. Maybe I should make a few more of Keira for Christmastime ;)

Have a great weekend and happy Friday!

{lucky in love}

This is by far my favorite layout for the Elle's Studio inspiration gallery this month :) If you haven't checked it out, head on over there! Everyone did an awesome job.

I started out with a piece of white cardstock. Stampin' Up is my favorite brand of white cardstock, I love the pure whiteness of it and the texture is awesome too. I used my pink and purple glimmer mists to splatter the background.

 For the embellished circle pieces, I used a whole package of the Owl Love You Forever scalloped circle tags (10 total) and embellished each with a punched butterfly, circle, flower or felt heart. I also used some of my A Sweet Summer mini papers -- the patterns are too cute and went perfectly with my color scheme.

 Here I used a The Moment Circle Tag and added the date and place with some computer journaling. The patterned paper I used here is from American Crafts Dear Lizzy, I believe the enchanted line.
This picture is so characteristic of Adam. He doesn't like to have his picture taken so he usually hams it up when I get the camera out. :) Of course I used the cheesy Jason Mraz song lyrics for my title....but it's so true. We really are best friends and I think that's pretty important if you're going to spend the rest of your life with someone. We'll be married 5 years this year....I can't even believe that much time has gone by! When I think of the rest of our life spread before us, I'm so excited about what the future has to hold. :)

I suppose that's enough gushing and sentimental rambling....I hope you have a good Thursday. Stay tuned tomorrow and Saturday for my next two projects.

{this week's menu}

Go check out February's Inspiration Gallery over at Elle's Studio..I can't wait to get home tonight and peruse everyone's projects!

Here's our menu plan for this week:

Saturday: Blueberry pancakes and bacon for breakfast (This is the best pancake recipe I've found yet. Sub blueberries for strawberries, or leave the fruit out altogether.) Chicken capri pasta for dinner. I found the Philadelphia cooking creme at the grocery store for a good price -- $1.29 per tub after coupon! Overall it was very good, although I did have to add a little lemon juice to tame the garlic and a little half&half to thin out the sauce. Keira ate it right up.

Sunday: Breakfast casserole with hahbrowns, eggs, ham and cheddar cheese for breakfast. For dinner I made honey mustard pork tenderloin and cheesy broccoli and rice casserole. Sorry, no recipe for the casserole, I just made it with what I had on hand! Rice, chicken broth, broccoli and a homemade cheese sauce.

Monday: Out for dinner

Tuesday: Spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic rolls

Wednesday: Cuban sandwiches (using leftover pork), carrots with homemade ranch and potato chips.

Thursday: Baked potatoes with broccoli and cheese or chili, cottage cheese and fruit.

Friday: Out for pizza, or cheeseburgers and tater tots

This weekend I'm excited to be going on a weekend long scrapping retreat with some friends....Adam will be tending to the home fires. I'll be stocking up the freezer and cabinets with chicken nuggets, corn dogs, mac and cheese and fruit snacks. Can't wait!

[sneak!}

If you haven't been over to the Elle's Studio shop to see the new tags....run, quick! They are beautiful....and I can't wait to have them in my hot little hands!!

Here are a few sneak peeks of the layouts I made for this month's inspiration gallery. I bet you can't guess what this one's about! ;) The gallery goes live tomorrow, the 22nd.

Honestly, this page is probably my favorite, and definitely in my top five layouts I've ever done. I love when an idea in your head actually comes to life on paper ;) I'll share my layouts and other project in their entirety this week on my blog, as well as a few other projects I worked on this weekend.

Today is a holiday, no work for me, so we've scheduled our annual eye exam. Both Adam and I get to pick out new glasses today, hooray! We are fortunate that our vision plan allows us to pick out new frames every year. But Adam got prescription sunglasses last year, so he's definitely due for a new pair. Then maybe some bbq at Bandana's... ;)

{fun striped tag set}

Hi! Today was my day to share a quick tutorial on the Elle's Studio blog. Originally I had thought of going a couple of different ways, but finally decided on a tag set. I am a little obsessed with making tags right now. They are just so quick and fun, and a great way to use up scraps!

For this tag, I used a fun striped journaling tag for the base. I also used a fun striped circle tag for the middle of the sunburst. Finished off with some stitching and punched butterflies, this makes a bright and fun tag to use on a scrapbook page or card.

To create the sunburst look, I punched out a star and cut the points apart, then glued them to the back of the circle.

For the next tag, I used a manilla tag for my base, layered with a piece of Ledger Love paper. I used another fun striped circle tag, embellished with a computer generated sentiment and punched heart.

I can't seem to leave the machine stitching off either. :)

For this last tag, I used a fun striped tiny tag, punched with a heart punch and backed with a piece of yellow paper. Adding a computer sentiment printed on vintage ledger paper and some machine stitching finish it off.

I adhered this tag to a larger manila tag that was embellished with patterned paper. The butterfly was actually punched from a vintage calendar circle tag.

To package up the tags, I used a small brown paper sack from Michelle Wooderson's Etsy shop. The mini clothespin is also from there too :)  I die cut a butterfly from Elle's Countdown paper, and tucked that under the clothespin along with a tiny tag embellished with a Vintage Note Journaling tag.

Hopefully you've been inspired to make some cute little tags for yourself! Either to share with a fellow papercrafter or adorn a gift, card, or scrapbook page. :)

{everyday love}

I am exhausted tonight. A certain someone decided to wake me at 0430 this morning....for a little snuggle? Or something? Haha, she just wanted to see mommy before I went to work I guess ;) Of course once I got her back to bed, much too late for me to try and catch any more sleep! So I'll be turning in early tonight.

I made this page for sketch 225 at Pencil Lines....using the new MME Stella & Rose line. My LSS just got it in the other day, + it was 20% off, score!

These pictures are not as great as I would like them to be, as it's dark outside now, but I didn't want to wait until the weekend to share this page. See that cute little wooden button? That's from Mish's etsy shop. She has the cutest things and I've ordered more than a few times from her ;) The resin flower is Maya Road. I am in love with these flowers lately....I also am hoarding some from Stampin Up and Making Memories...

I made this little embellishment with a Maya Road chipboard frame, misted with glimmer mist. The 'notes' tag is by Elle's Studio. Button and brad are both MME, as is the 'say cheese' sticker.

I was sort of drawn to this sketch by the banner....what can I say, trendy - but I love them right now. I created a diamond pattern out of cardstock and used it as a guide to cut my patterned paper. I folded the diamonds over some bakers twine and adhered with my tape runner.

Maybe this weekend I'll take some better pics and replace these....for now you get the drift :)

Night!

{so glad}

My sister came over this last weekend....she helped make Valentine sugar cookies and we had lunch and talked nearly all afternoon. When I went up to my scraproom to work on a layout, I was inspired to scrapbook about her!

Since she's five years my younger, we haven't always gotten along well. Especially when I was in high school and she was still in grade school.....but the good thing is that as adults, none of that matters. I am so proud of her. She has gone to school and has herself a good job. She and her boyfriend have just bought their first home together. Life is falling into place and it's because of all that hard work she's put forth :)

She is a good aunt to Keira....so good with her and Keira loves to call her on the phone. "Tissen? Tissen?" She will bring my phone to me and we'll call her. It usually ends up with Keira accidentally hanging up :)

It seems like we get together pretty regularly on the weekends now, for lunch or shopping. This coming weekend we're planning on doing lunch together on Saturday -- Rudy's! a Mexican restaurant we both love. I'm glad to have her in my life. It's true, a sister really is like a built-in best friend ;)

Anywhoo, onto my layout in it's entirety.

I created this layout almost entirely of the new Echo Park 'For the Record' line -- for the Pencil Lines design team call. Crossing my fingers! Would love to be a part of that team, so much great inspiration there.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day! Looking forward to this weekend as it's another 3-day one for us federal employees.... :) Plus we're planning on taking Keira to the Children's Museum on Sunday. I think she'll have a blast!

Keep an eye out on the Elle's Studio blog for my first tutorial on Thursday.....

Here's a little sneak!

{happy ♥ day}

Really, Adam and I are not a couple to get too hung up on Valentine's day. Adam calls it a 'manufactured holiday'. Hee. I sort of agree, but flowers never hurt! This year we didn't really celebrate as a couple. Which is fine with me. He shows me he loves me every day out of the year, not just today.

This past weekend I wanted to make rolled sugar cookies to take to work today. I knew Keira would have lots of fun helping.

Aunt 'Tissen' helped too.

Recipe from Annie's Eats.

Keira also got some Valentine candy from Grandma...

and a stuffed puppy :)

Here is what Sweet Tarts + sucker + massive amounts of cookie dough does to your toddler.
